Growing Season

The 2007 growing season was fast and furious. Grapes ripened earlier then we typically see, with the exception of our Viognier and Roussanne. Both these varieties spent their usual time on the vines and were harvested in the month of September. The fruit fully ripened while maintaining its acidity.

Vineyards

We sourced most of our Viognier grapes, and all our Roussanne grapes, from the Lonesome Spring Ranch in the Yakima Valley AVA. This exceptional vineyard produces limited quantities of high quality, ripe fruit with balanced acidity.

We sourced additional Viognier from the Seven Hills West Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley AVA. This site is very warm, producing fruit that is full bodied with tropical flavor profiles.

Vinification

The grapes were whole cluster pressed and cold settled until the juice clarified. The juice was fermented in 60% French oak, of which 36% was in neutral French barrels and 24% in new French barrels. The remaining 40% underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Temperatures were kept between 50 - 55 degrees F in order to preserve the wines aromatics. Wines were aged on the lees and stirred weekly for 3 months before being blended in order to increase mouth feel.

Tasting Notes

This wine delivers a bouquet of lavender, mandarin zest, pears and stone fruits. On the pallet it transforms from a balanced acidity to a well integrated minerality.
