Terroir: Elevation 1200 is located along the North Fork of the Walla Walla River. The vineyards location coupled with its elevation resting between 1500 and 1700 feet makes this a relatively temperate site in comparison to the rest of the Walla Walla valley.  In comparison to many other vineyards in the Walla Walla valley, Elevation 1200 is above the frost level that can have an adverse effect during Spring and harvest. The steep slope of the vineyard provides for excellent air drainage, which also contributes to a lower risk of frost damage. The vineyard is south facing which allows for optimum sun exposer and ideal conditions for ripening fruit. The soil consists of silt and fractured basalt. History has shown us that the undesirable ground often produces the finest wines especially rocky ground.Sustainability: Various types of vegetation have been planted throughout the vineyard in addition to grape vines. The purpose of this is to establish a cover crop. Cover crops reduce erosion, controls weeds, fixes nitrogen, and creates biodiversity within the vineyard. In addition lavender has been panted to host beneficial insects.  Weeding is conducted by mechanical means thus eliminating the use of Roundup and other like herbicides.  Cultivation: Much of Elevation 1200 is terraced. Two rows of vines are place on each ten foot terrace. Within each terraced row there is four foot spacing. In the steepest blocks three by three foot rows ascend a 38 degree slope. The high density planting at Elevation 1200 is designed to limit the growth of each vine thus concentrating the character in the resulting wines.
